Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is all set to appear for his 194th Indian Premier League fixture, when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai, and will surpass Suresh Raina’s record of the most capped player.
MS Dhoni will become the most capped CSK player in the history of the Indian Premier League. Suresh Raina has played 164 matches for CSK already in the IPL and hence MS Dhoni will join his teammate in this club. Raina is back in India due to personal reasons, amid the coronavirus scare, while Dhoni is in UAE leading the CSK like in all seasons that he franchise has appeared in since the inaugural edition.
In a more important record, Dhoni is also all set to become the most capped player in the IPL. Yes, the Chennai Super Kings skipper has played 193 matches in the history of the league so far and is all set to break Suresh Raina’s record. Besides the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has also played for Rising Pune Supergiant, Rising Pune Supergiants in the seasons when CSK were banned from the IPL.
Currently, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are tied at 193 matches each in the IPL. With Suresh Raina not being a part of IPL 2020, MS Dhoni will keep the record at least for this season if CSK make it to the playoffs. If CSK don’t make it to the playoffs and Mumbai Indians do, there’s a high chance that Rohit Sharma (with 192 IPL matches) will overhaul Dhoni’s upcoming record. The Mumbai Indians skipper recently, in the match against Kings XI Punjab, joined Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina in the 5000 IPL runs club.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has amassed 4476 runs in his IPL career and is 24 runs away from completing 4500 IPL runs. Chennai Super Kings will take on David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International stadium at 7.30 PM IST.
