Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Sunday said that efforts to “mislead” farmers to the new farm laws would not work.
The minister said new laws will raise the income of farmers, but the opposition party was misguiding them, said the minister while addressing function to mark the third anniversary of the Jai Ram Thakur-led BJP government in Himachal Pradesh.
Whenever a reform is carried out, it takes a few years until it begins to produce meaningful effects, Singh said in his virtual speech.
If the economic reforms of 1991 brought in by then Finance Minister Manmohan Singh or those implemented during the Vajpayee administration, it took four-five years to see their positive effects, he said.
“Similarly, if we can’t wait for four-five years, we can wait for at least two years to witness positive results of the agriculture reforms carried out by the Narendra Modi government,” the Minister of Defence said.
Thousands of farmers have protested against the three laws passed in September at various boundary points in Delhi.
