Former Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2002 murder of Dera Sirsa manager Ranjit Singh. The four other accused are Krishna Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh and Sabdil. The sixth accused in the case had died a year ago.
Judge Sushil Kumar Garg of CBI Court in Panchkula, Haryana also ordered the imposition of a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Rs 1 lakh under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. Apart from life imprisonment , four other co-offenders have also been fined by the court.
The family of Ranjit Singh will get 50 percent of the fine.
Earlier this month, the special CBI court in Haryana’s Panchkula had convicted the five.
Gurmeet Singh was kept in Rohtak district’s Sunaria jail after being found guilty in 2017 for raping two of his followers. Gurmeet Singh appeared through video conferencing while four other criminals were present in the court.
