The annual Kanwar Yatra is starting today after a gap of two years. The Yatra could not take place for the last two years due to the Kovid epidemic. This year, around three to four crore devotees are expected to attend.
The Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh governments have made elaborate arrangements to accommodate the large number of pilgrims. In Uttar Pradesh, the Kanwar Yatra will pass through Meerut, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Shamli and Baghpat districts and will run till 26th of this month. Devotees will take water from Haridwar, Gomukh and Gangotri and offer it to Shiva temples.
Most of the pilgrims complete the journey on foot. But unable devotees also use vehicles for long distances. In collaboration with local Kanwar committees, more than 175 Kanwar Camps will be set up at 152 places in Delhi, in which the main responsibility of monitoring the arrangements will be handled by the Teerth Yatra Development Committee of Delhi Government. The Revenue Department of Delhi Government will get the tents set up with the help of the local district administration at all the designated places.
