The US Parliament has passed a resolution declaring Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India. The resolution affirms that the United States recognizes the McMahon Line as the international boundary between the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and China. The US has rejected China’s claim that a large part of Arunachal Pradesh is its territory. Now this proposal will go to the Senate for voting.
Meanwhile, Senator Haggerty has said that at a time when China continues to pose a serious threat to a free and open Indo-Pacific region, it is vitally important for the US to work with India. A statement issued to the media said The resolution reaffirms that the United States recognizes the McMahon Line as the international boundary between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
This undermines China’s claim that most of Arunachal belongs to the PRC. The proposal will now be presented to the Senate for a vote. “American values that support freedom and a rules-based order must be at the heart of all our actions and relationships around the world, especially as the PRC government pursues an alternative approach,” said MP Merkley.
