Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh has said that India is now at number three in the world in terms of unicorns. He told in Lok Sabha today that till yesterday there were 99 unicorns in the country.
The government has given financial assistance to 10600 startup projects in the last 8 years from 2014 to 2022. He said that since 2016 till date about 67 thousand startup projects have been registered with the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Edtech startup Byju’s is the most valuable unicorn in India. Its total valuation is $21 billion. InMobi is second with $12 billion, Oyo with $9.5 billion and Rogerpay with $7.5 billion is at the fourth position. It further states that Bengaluru has the highest number of unicorns among Indian cities.
74 percent of America-China… 74% of the world’s unicorns are in America and China. A total of 673 startups became unicorns across the world this year, while 201 dropped out of the list. 28% i.e. 162 unicorns became companies. At the same time, 7% i.e. 39 companies were out of the list of unicorns due to low valuation.
