100 killed in suicide attack on a Shia mosque in Afghanistan

One hundred people were killed and several injured in a suicide attack on a Shia mosque in the Afghan city of Kunduz. The suicide bomber detonated a bomb in the mosque during Friday prayers. Just a few days ago, dozens of people were killed in an attack on a mosque in Kabul. The Islamic State Khorasan faction has claimed responsibility for the Kunduz attack.

The Taliban confirmed the suicide attack, but did not specify the death toll.

About twenty percent of the total population of Afghanistan are Shia Muslims.

Many of them belong to the Hazara community, who have faced torture and persecution in the country.
