47 killed and five missing in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand

The death toll in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand has risen to 47 while five people are still missing. The Kumaon region in the state has been the worst affected by the rains. Maximum 27 people have died in Nainital. The maximum number of deaths have occurred in Nainital district.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Relief and rescue operations are on in the affected areas. 15 teams of National Disaster Response Force were deployed, he directed the district administration to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing.

Meanwhile, the national highway connecting Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath has been reopened for vehicular movement.

The continuous rainfall in Kerala has reduced. The Meteorological Department has issued a new alert regarding Kerala. As per the new notification, the Orange Alert issued yesterday for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts has been withdrawn.
