Merajuddin Malla, a local BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla who was abducted by unknown persons has been rescued.
According to officials, Malla was rescued following a day-long operation by security forces and J&K Police.
The operation to rescue Merajuddin Malla who is also the vice president of the Municipal Committee in Baramulla’s Watergam, was initiated with the detention of family members of Lashkar’s Sopore Commander Sajad alias Haider. Malla’s abduction came two days after Haider had threatened the kin of J&K Police along with BJP party workers of dire consequences. The militant had also issued similar threats to the Inspector General (IG), Kashmir.
Officials have maintained that Malla was abducted by unknown persons and taken away in a car when he was walking somewhere on Wednesday morning. A massive manhunt was then launched to rescue the local political functionary with security forces and J&K Police joining hands to ensure the success of the operation.
Earlier this month, BJP leader from Bandipora Sheikh Waseem Bari was gunned down at his residence-cum-office building along with his father and brother. The brutal killings triggered widespread criticism of the lack of protection offered to political functionaries in the union territory.
BJP leader Ram Madhav and Union MoS (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh had visited the Bari household in Bandipora to express their condolences. They were accompanied by J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina.
