Continuing the winning streak of the Indian weightlifting contingent at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Achinta Sheuly, representing India in the 73 kg category, today clinched a gold medal. Achinta, 20, lifted the gold medal by lifting a total of 313 kg including 143 kg in snatch and 170 kg in clean and jerk.
The India Weightlifting Team has so far won 6 medals. Earlier Mirabai Chanu and Jeremy Lalrinnunga bagged the gold medal while Bindiyarani Devi and Sanket Sargar bagged the silver medal. Gururaja Pujari has won the lone bronze medal in the medal tally.
With Shelly’s gold medal, India has so far won three gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games.
The Prime Minister also wished him good luck for the future. Sharing a video, Modi said that he had spoken to Achint before leaving for the Commonwealth Games. Achint told him about the support he got from his mother and brother. The Prime Minister expressed hope that Achint, who is fond of watching movies, would now get a chance to watch a film of his choice after winning the medal.
