After getting the green signal from Lok Sabha, the Waqf Bill will be presented in Rajya Sabha

After the Lok Sabha passed the Wakf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the government will introduce it in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The bill was discussed intensely for over 12 hours in the Lok Sabha, starting from Wednesday afternoon till early Thursday. The Wakf Bill was passed with 288 votes in favour and 232 against.

Also, the lower house passed a resolution confirming the imposition of President’s rule in Manipur. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move a statutory resolution in the Rajya Sabha today approving the proclamation issued by the President on February 13, 2025. Though members cutting across party lines supported the decision, some opposition members criticised the Centre for the situation in Manipur. Home Minister Shah said the government has taken all possible measures to bring back normalcy in the troubled northeastern state.

Minister Dr. Chandrasekhar Pemmasani will make a statement regarding withdrawal of funds from the Contingency Fund of India to service interest on Sovereign Guarantee Bonds (SGBs) raised by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024 will be introduced in the Lok Sabha by minister Sarbananda Sonowal for consideration and passage. The bill proposes to regulate coastal shipping, promote coastal trade and encourage domestic participation.

Minister Ramamohan Naidu Kinjarapu will introduce the Protection of Interests in Aircraft Goods Bill, 2025 for consideration and passing. The Bill provides for the protection of interests in aircraft goods and seeks to implement the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Devices.

Apart from this, Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will make a statement in the lower house regarding the status of implementation of recommendations contained in the 10th report of the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs on PM Street Vendor AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi).
