India and China have resolved the military standoff that erupted in 2020 near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. An agreement on military patrols has been reached following diplomatic and military-level talks between the two countries. This will lead to the disengagement of forward deployments.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the agreement in a press briefing on Monday, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BRICS visit. He stated that the agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC in the India-China border region was reached after several weeks of discussions. This will lead to the disengagement of forward deployments and ultimately resolve the issues that arose in these areas in 2020.
It’s worth noting that the two armies faced off in 2020, resulting in casualties on both sides. The incident strained relations between India and China. Subsequently, talks began at the level of the foreign ministry and military to defuse the tension.
