In Uttar Pradesh, a 19-year-old Muslim youth was arrested in the Bijnor district on Tuesday for allegedly abducting a minor girl from the Scheduled Caste on the pretext of marriage by hiding her name.
The couple eloped on Monday. The child, the police said, told the police that she and the youth were friends, but it was only after they eloped that she realised he was a Muslim.
Youth were registered under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, kidnapping or forcing women to force their marriage, etc.) of the IPC, along with the related sections of the SC/ST Act, the POCSO Act and the new Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of the Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance.
