Former US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has expressed her concern on persecution of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. She condemned the Pakistani Army’s genocide of Bengali Hindus and urged the international community to work against Islamist extremism.
“As a member of Congress, I introduced a resolution calling for Hindus and religious minorities in Bangladesh to be protected. People who are still being targeted and persecuted today. The peak of this persecution occurred 50 years ago, when the Pakistani army systematically murdered, raped, and drove millions of Bengali Hindus from their homes because of their religion and ethnicity.
The Pakistani military began systematically targeting Hindus in Bangladesh on March 25, 1971. It began in Hindu neighborhoods and villages, first at Jagannath Hall, a Hindu dormitory at Dhaka University, where between 5,000 and ten thousand people were killed on the first night alone. This genocidal campaign continued for 10 months, resulting in two to three million people getting killed.
This genocidal campaign lasted ten months and resulted in the deaths of two to three million people. Hundreds of thousands of women and girls have been raped, and over ten million have been forced to flee their homes.”
Tulsi Gabbard also brought up US Senator Ted Kennedy, who witnessed the genocidal campaign against Hindus. She also stated that “Islamist persecution of Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh did not end with the country’s independence.” She brought up recent attacks on Hindu temples in Bangladesh in the aftermath of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the country.
