Just days before the fourth phase of the assembly elections Dilip Ghosh, the state BJP president, was attacked in Cooch Behar. The leader told the media persons that Trinamool Congress workers hurled bombs, stones and bricks on his car and other vehicles in his convoy.
Dilip Ghosh stated that the incident occurred on his way back from speaking at an election rally in Sitalkuchi, North Bengal. Workers returning from a rally by CM Mamata Banerjee surrounded and attacked the convoy on its way back from Sitalkuchi. He also stated that the police were mute spectators to this event.
The BJP leader was injured during the attack, as the convoy was attacked from all sides with guns, bombs, lathis, and bricks. He claimed that two bombs were detonated near his car. He claimed that more than 100 TMC personnel had surrounded the convoy in preparation for an attack.
After the attack, Dilip Ghosh posted live videos on Facebook showing the extent of the damage to his car. According to the images, the window glass on his side of the was smashed and had a large hole in it. As a result of the attack, the car’s windscreen was also damaged. After being attacked, Ghosh was forced to wear a helmet in his car.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has denied any involvement in the incident. The attack, according to TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, was the result of a clash between old and new BJP workers in the state.
