The crowd limit for the third test between India and Australia, starting here from Thursday, was reduced to 25% of SCG capacity on the advice of the New South Wales Government after fresh COVID-19 cases were registered in the area.
Approximately 9,500 viewers will be allowed to watch the sport with the series currently locked at 1-1 despite India’s spectacular comeback.
“Reducing the capacity of the venue is crucial in achieving social distancing requirements, and that we sincerely thank ticket-holders for his or her patience, as we process refunds today, reconfigure the SCG seating decide to deliver these social distancing measures and return on sale,” Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said during a statement.
The SCG had hosted two ODIs and as many T20s during the short edition of the Indian tour.
The first three games were held in front of a small audience of 18000 before the limits on the final T20 on the Immaculate Conception were removed, with around 30000 taking part in the sport.
The match will also have to be re-ticked, with the prevailing holders having an exclusive window to re-buy the tickets from 5 p.m. civil time on Monday to 12 p.m. on Tuesday. The remaining public tickets will be issued at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
“In response to the general public health situation in NSW, we are working closely with Venues NSW and NSW Health to place appropriate bio-security measures in situ for our staff, players, match officials, broadcasters and fans to make sure we play the third Test at the SCG safely,”
Tony Shepherd, Venues NSW Chair, said SCG had taken crucial steps to ensure the safety of spectators.
“There are extensive protocols being enacted for the upcoming Test, including increased cleaning, customer service and staff, along side dedicated social distancing marshals, Sheppard said.
“The SCG is registered as a COVID Safe business with the NSW Government which allows exhaustive record keeping and QR code check-in protocols which will make sure the safety of ours fans.
