The deadlock continues in Parliament over the no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. On Friday too, the proceedings of the House were adjourned due to uproar. During this, there was a heated debate between the Chairman and the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. This situation among the MPs affected the activities of the House, which hindered discussion and decision making.
Expressing his anguish over the campaign being run against him in the media, Chairman Dhankhar said that it is not only against him but against his category. He alleged that the opposition parties are not following constitutional procedures. Dhankhar also said that he is a farmer’s son and is committed to discharge his responsibility towards the country. He urged the opposition to find time to meet him in his chamber for dialogue so that the deadlock can be ended.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, while responding to the Speaker’s remarks, said that if he is the son of a farmer, then he is the son of a labourer. Accusing the Speaker of bias, Kharge said that he is giving the opportunity to speak to the BJP MPs, while the Congress MPs are not being given the opportunity. He also said that it is the responsibility of the Speaker to respect all the MPs, and if they practice inequality, then there is no point in giving them respect.
