Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia made the announcement this morning that all the Delhi state university exams, including end term exams for final year students, stand cancelled due to the major health risks posed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Delhi has been one of the worst-hit areas by the Covid-19 pandemic in India and educational institutes have been shut since March. University exams for final year students were supposed to be held as per UGC guidelines but now, the AAP government has decided against it.
In his tweet, Manish Sisodia wrote, “In light of the major disruptions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, Delhi government has decided to cancel all Delhi state university exams including final exams.”
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia made this announcement on Saturday morning during an interaction with the press. After his announcement, students have been praising this decision on Twitter.
While making the announcement of cancellation of university examinations in Delhi, Manish Sisodia also stated that the evaluation process of the final exams will be set by the university itself.
“Delhi government has decided to cancel all Delhi state university exams including final exams in view of COVID-19. The degree will be awarded based on evaluation parameters decided by the universities,” he was quoted as saying during his interaction with the press.
The final exams for terminal semester students were supposed to be conducted by the end of September, as per the guidelines released by UGC, which received a lot of student backlash.
Students should note that the exams have only been cancelled for all Delhi state universities. The rest of the higher educational institutes have not made any formal announcements yet.
