China has warned the US diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games will have an impact on talks and cooperation between the two countries. China said that sports should be kept away from politics.
The US has announced a boycott, just weeks after talks between the US President and Chinese President Xi Jinping held through virtual medium to try to defuse tensions in mutual relations.
The White House yesterday announced a boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games by US officials. This boycott has been done because of China’s human rights abuses and atrocities in Xinjiang. Earlier, Britain, Canada and Australia had also talked about considering a diplomatic boycott of these games.
Human rights activists have long called for a boycott of the Beijing Winter Games to protest China’s human rights violations in Xinjiang and Tibet.
