PM Modi joined leaders from all over the world in condemning protests and abuse by US President Donald Trump’s supporters at the US Capitol Building in Washington DC.
The prime minister said he was “distressed” to see the news and wished that the transition of power between President Donald Trump and US President-elect Joe Biden would be peaceful.
Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests.

“Disgraceful scenes in US Congress,” said Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
“Trump and his supporters should finally accept the decision of the American voters and stop trampling on democracy,” German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas posted on Twitter.
Angry Trump’s followers surrounded and threatened to barge into the Capitol in an effort to foil the certification of Joe Biden as the next president.
