In Uttarakhand, the doors of Badrinath Dham will close with Vedic chanting at 3.35 pm today. The Badrinath temple is lavishly decorated with flowers ahead of the winter season. Devotees throng here in large numbers to participate in the annual ceremony of closing the Dham. This year more than 17 lakh 80 devotees visited Bradinath Dham.
With the closure of the doors, the Char Dham Yatra will also end today itself. The portals of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri have already been closed during the winter season. According to the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, more than 44 lakh pilgrims performed the Chardham Yatra this year.
There was little time left for the closure of the doors, yet the main center of Hindu faith and one of the Char Dhams, Badrinath, the holy abode of Lord Vishnu, was resplendent in the month of Kartik. Devotees from every corner of the country reached the abode of Lord Badri Vishal and came on the occasion of Kartik Snan. In fact, in the month of Kartik, bath, meditation, lamp donation and khichdi have special importance in Badrinath Dham.
