Fire breaks out on coastal shipping boat at the Visakhapatnam Port Trust

Aminor fire broke out on a coastal shipping boat anchored at the Visakhapatnam Port Trust West Q5 berth.

The BD51 ship from Chennai reached the port at Visakhapatnam on Saturday night.

The staff of the ship which transport crews into cargo ships, noticed smoke coming out from the ship’s cabin room on Sunday afternoon and informed port authorities.

Firefighters responded swiftly and averted any big mishap.

This is the second fire incident that happened on Sunday. Earlier, in the morning, 11 people were killed and at least 30 rescued after a massive fire broke out at a Covid-19 facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada. All the rescued people have now been taken to a nearby hospital.

The hotel leased by a private hospital to treat the coronavirus infected had “violated” safety rules, according to Fire Safety Director Jairam Naik.

“The alarm bell didn’t ring at the time of the accident and there was a delay in opening the back door. The investigation has been initiated and there will be action on hotel management after it,” Jayram Naik said.
