Former officials who left Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power last month have said the Afghan government will continue in exile. This government will be headed by Vice President Amrulla Saleh.
The statement of the Afghan Embassy in Switzerland states that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is the legitimate government of Afghanistan, which is elected by the votes of the people and cannot be replaced by any other government.
The statement also said that former Vice President Amarullah Saleh will lead the country after Ashraf Ghani leaves the country. All embassies and consulates in Afghanistan will continue to function as normal.
