Haryana Deputy CM and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) Chief Dushyant Singh Chautala expressed his opinion on the farmers’ agitation against the three agricultural acts of the Center and said that he will tender his resignation “if he fails to ensure that a farmer gets minimum support price (MSP) for his crops”
Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party is a key ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, and has a farmers’ vote base. The deputy chief minister told reporters that he is in touch with Union ministers to resolve the deadlock between farmers and the Centre.
Chautala noted that he is a farmer first and continues to track the situation, adding that the Center has promised to offer written assurance to farmers about the MSP.
“We (the BJP-JJP government) are continuously monitoring the situation and are in touch with the Centre. I feel that we will be able to resolve the issues in the coming days,” told Chautala
Chautala also accused Captain Amarinder Singh, the government of the Congress in Punjab, of instigating the farmers for “political gains” He also noted that the governments of Punjab and Rajasthan have refused to offer MSPs to farmers.
When questioned if he had failed to fight for the farmers, the JJP leader again accused the opposition of misleading the farmers, claiming that the Manohar Lal Khattar government is purchasing crops from the farmers on the MSP.
“In Haryana, we have assured MSP to the farmers. The Rajasthan government failed to do so and bajra was being sold on streets there. Even the Punjab government could not do it. However, we in Haryana have made facilities here and will continue to procure crops at MSP,” he said.
Dushyant Singh Chautala is part of the BJP-JJP administration in Haryana. Both parties formed an alliance in the state following the election of the 2019 Assembly with Dushyant as Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana
