As nation-wide protest by thousands of farmers is still intensifying, a group of farmers from Haryana approved the Centre’s request for the required changes to those laws, which are at the centre of the deadlock.
More than a dozen farmers from the Haryana FPO (Farmer Producer Organization) and Jagruk and Pragatiseel Kisan Union signed a written agreement with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar during a meeting with him in his Ministry of Agriculture.
They approved the Government’s request for amendments to the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Basic Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 which was passed in September at the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
In their letter of approval, the farmers said, “We are happy to proceed with the three farm laws passed by the nation.
“These laws should be continued with the new amendment proposals sent by the Central government to the farmers. We support the demands raised by agitating farmers regarding continuation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC),” the letter mentioned.
Farmers urged the Central Government to table changes to the three laws as suggested and to ensure that their demands are met on time and that their concerns are duly heard.
The development comes two days after the government’s comprehensive proposal to recognise the various main demands of the farmers has been refused by the agitators, insisting on repealing the three farm laws, branding them “black laws” and “anti-farmers.”
The Government proposed to make the requisite changes to these rules, recognising the demands of the farmers to continue the MSP and the APMC.
The adoption by a group of farmers of the government’s plan suggests that the deadlock can be settled very quickly.
