A 21-year-old woman filed a FIR for rape and forced religious conversion at the Shahabad Police Station in Hardoi. This is the fifth FIR registered under the new law under which up to 28 people have been registered in Sitapur, Mau, Bareilly and Muzaffarnagar.

The woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with one Mohammed Azad of Shahabad for two years.

During this time, she claimed that she had repeatedly been raped by Azad on the pretext of marriage. She said that on the 30th of November, when she asked him to marry her, Azad asked her to convert to Islam.

She also said that Azad was also threatening to kill her if she reported the matter to the police. The survivor also said that she believed that Azad would take her to Delhi and sell her.
