The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has posed serious challenges to the tourism industry of Jammu and Kashmir. In recent times, hotels, restaurants and travel related businesses are facing significant economic pressure due to a large number of tourists cancelling their bookings.
Bhaderwah, known as ‘Chhota Kashmir’, has been particularly affected by the crisis. Local hotelier Ajay Sharma underlined the gravity of the situation. He said tourism activities have come to a complete standstill in the last few days.
The economic landscape of the region has been impacted significantly. Currently, over 100 hotels are operational and 50 new hotels are under construction. However, current conditions are raising questions about the long-term viability of these investments.
Local businessmen have demanded immediate intervention from the administration. Their main suggestion is to implement safety protocols (SOPs) and guarantee safe travel to tourists. They are insisting that only by ensuring safety can the tourism sector be revived.
This crisis is not limited to the hotel industry, but is also affecting transport, retail trade and other sectors of the local economy. Hundreds of employees and related businesses are struggling with this crisis.
In the final analysis, the Pahalgam attack has posed serious challenges to the tourism sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Only quick and effective policy interventions can revive the sector.
