On Saturday, India reported 345,147 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total caseload to 16,602,456, according to Worldometer. India saw the highest single-day increase in deaths, with 2,621 people dying due to a lack of oxygen and a failing health system. 189,549 people have died as a result of the deadly infection. There are currently over 2.55 million active cases in the country.
As hospitals in the national capital struggled with a severe shortage of medical oxygen, the city of Delhi reported 348 deaths as a result of Covid-19. In the last 24 hours, there have been 24,331 new cases reported. According to official data, Maharashtra recorded 773 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours, marking the state’s largest single-day increase in the death count. In addition, the worst-affected state reported 66,836 new cases. West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh each recorded 12,876 and 37,238 cases.
The most affected states are Maharashtra (4,161,676), Kerala (1,322,054), Karnataka (1,247,997), Tamil Nadu (1,037,711), and Andhra Pradesh (997,462), Uttar Pradesh (976,765) and Delhi (956,348).
