To help the needy amid the Covid-19 lockdown, the Navy provided ration packets, comprising basic food items, to Maharashtra government for distribution among stranded migrant labourers in Mumbai.
The Mumbai city District Collector had requested the Navy to provide relief to the large number of migrant labourers, stranded due to the lockdown.
Acting on the request, the Western Naval Command arranged around 250 ration packets on April 4. The packets contained adequate quantities of food items.
The packets were handed over to the local authorities near Musaafir Khana and at the Collector Office near the Asiatic Library. Distribution points were set up at Cuffe Parade and Kalba Devi.
On April 8, an additional 500 ration packets were provided to the authorities for distribution among the stranded construction workers in the Kamathipura area.
