India has passed the bleak threshold of one crore of COVID-19 cases, even as the propagation of the virus slows down with almost a month taking 10 lakh new infections, compared to the duration from August to mid-November when they grew at a faster pace.
According to the Union Ministry of Health’s revised statistics at 8 a.m. on Saturday were at 1,00,04,599, while the recoveries surged to over 95.50 lakh.
India is ranked number one in terms of the number of coronavirus cases recovered, followed by Brazil, according to Johns Hopkins University, which collected global data for COVID-19.
India is the second worst-hit nation in terms of COVID-19 cases after the US, while it is seventh in terms of deaths worldwide after the US and Brazil, according to JHU numbers.
The health ministry data showed there were 25,152 new infections in a span of 24 hours while the death count stood at 1,45,136 with the virus claiming 347 more lives. The COVID-19 fatality rate has further declined to 1.45 per cent, it said.
