Jammu and Kashmir has seen 65.54 percent and 52.24 percent voter turnout on Tuesday in the second phase of vacant Panch and Sarpanch bypolls respectively.
SEC informed that by-poll for Panch vacant seats was held in 343 constituencies including 317 in Kashmir division and 26 in Jammu division during the second phase. A total of 34,578 electors (including 17,987 males and 16,591 females) out of 52,757 eligible voters exercised their franchise.
Jammu division recorded 79.25 percent and Kashmir division recorded 63.92 percent voter turnout during the 2nd phase of Panch by-elections, Sharma informed.
On vacant Saranch constituencies, 52.25 percent polling was registered during the 2nd phase, in 83 constituencies including 62 in Kashmir division and 21 in Jammu division.
Total of 55,672 electors (including 29,409 males and 26,263 females) out of 1,06,551 eligible voters voted to choose their representatives. 71.19 percent polling was registered in Jammu division where as 44.72 percent voting was recorded in Kashmir division, the SEC informed.
He said in Jammu division, Jammu district recorded the highest voter turnout of 86.93 percent and 79.21 percent for Panch and Sarpanch by-polls respectively. In Kashmir division, Bandipora topped the Panch and Sarpanch voter turnout with 78.15 percent and 74.20 percent polling respectively.
SEC said that the polling was peaceful and smooth across the UT at all polling stations in the second phase.
