Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s recent pictures with Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta and Congress spokesperson Shamsher Alam has sparked off a fresh debate. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is currently lodged at RIMS Hospital, has violated the jail manual by conducting a “darbar”.
Posting a picture of Lalu Prasad Yadav on Facebook, Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo alleged on Sunday that the veteran RJD leader was openly flouting jail manual. The photo showed Lalu Prasad Yadav using a mobile phone.
“Openly violating jail manual. The darbar of former (Bihar) Chief Minister Lalu Prasad has been adorned even during the coronavirus period. The excuse – he had to see the Health Minister Banna Gupta ji. He is also talking on mobile,” Shahdeo captioned the post in Hindi, urging the chief minister to take action.
The bJP has alleged that Lalu holds “darbar” regularly, meets RJD, Congress and his supporters regularly. It has also been alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav runs his party from the private ward of RIMS.
The BJP spokesperson said the Central government must act on the “lawless culture as we don’t expect any action from the state government which survives on RJD and the Congress’s support”.
Despite several attempts by India Today TV, neither the home secretary, chief secretary or jail IG could be contacted for their comments on the viral pictures. This is not the first time the violation of jail norms by the RJD chief has surfaced.
Lalu Prasad has been convicted in four fodder scam cases and was awarded up to 14 years of imprisonment. He has currently been undergoing treatment at RIMS.
