Recently, an incident in Madhya Pradesh shook the religious sentiments of Hindus when stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui indulged in making fun of Hindu Gods during his comic act. He was immediately arrested from the venue. The Madhya Pradesh court in Indore denied the bail of stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and another accused arrested last week on a complaint that “indecent” remarks had been made against Hindu deities during a display held in Indore.
Additional District and Session Court Judge Yatindra Kumar Guru dismissed the petition of bail of Munawar Faruqui and Nalin Y.
On 2 January, the Supreme Court of Justice dismissed the petition of bail of the comedian, Nalin Yadav and three others.
Munawar Faruqui, a resident of Gujarat, was arrested on Saturday along with four others for allegedly making lewd remarks against the Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a café in 56 Dukan district of Indore on 1 January.
The complaint was filed against them by Eklavya Singh Gaur, 36, son of local BJP legislator Malini Laxman Singh Gaur.
Prosecution counsel Vimal Mishra argued that the two defendants had engaged in an operation for which no approval had been sought from the local government in the middle of the pandemic.
Mishra also added that lewd remarks had been made against the Hindu deities at the case, which he said was “full of obscenity despite the presence of minor boys and girls among the audience.”
