During his visit to Manipur, Amit Shah has initiated many construction ventures in Manipur. Amit Shah launched the Thoubal Multipurpose Project (Thoubal Dam) in Imphal via virtual mode. He also laid the foundation stone for seven major construction projects, including Churachandpur Medical College, IT-SEZ Mantripukhri, Manipur Bhawan Dwarka, New Delhi, and the Integrated Command and Control Centre Imphal.
Union Minister for Development for the North-Eastern Zone, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Amit Shah said that this day marks a significant landmark in Manipur’s transformative journey under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many significant projects are currently underway in one day, including the Medical College in Churachandpur, the IIIT and the IT-SEZ in Mantripukhri, which will act as a benchmark for the entire North East. Shah said Imphal’s State Police Headquarters and Smart City Integrated Center would continue to advance smart governance.
The home minister expressed that the IIIT and IT-SEZ would bind Manipur’s youth to the world. After the development of the IT-SEZ, Manipur’s GDP will grow by Rs 4.600 a year and there will be a job generation for 44,000 people. With the establishment of a medical college, the youth of Manipur will emerge as doctors and the state’s health system will be improved.
Shah said that under the leadership of PM Modi ji, the State Chief Minister, Manipur was brought Manipur out of the bandhs and blockades along the route of progress. Modi ji is committed to the growth of the North East as a whole, and the trust of the people here will never be undermined. Shah said the Chief Minister of Manipur, Biren Singh has done a remarkable job in the last three years. In the last three years, there has been no single shutdown, which shows that people are thriving under the rule of law.
The whole of North-East is very dear to PM Modi ji’s heart, and the PM states that East India and West India are the two arms of Mother India. Western India has developed, but India’s growth is not feasible without the development of Eastern India. After 2014, there was a significant amount of growth in the North East under the leadership of Modiji. The North-East was historically notorious for separatism and numerous insurgent campaigns, but within the last six-and-a-half years.
The Home minister said that PM Modi knows the heart of the people, that the petition for the Inner Line Permit for its original residents had existed for many years, and that on 11 December 2019, Modi Ji agreed not to give the Inner Line Permit to Manipur would be an injustice to the original inhabitants of the state. The Prime Minister issued the Inner Line Permit to Manipur, which is the central government’s greatest accomplishment since the establishment of the state of Manipur.
Amit Shah, referring to the Thoubal Multipurpose Project, said that the scheme was initiated in 2004 during Atal ji’s time, but nothing changed until 2014 and the project remained on paper. In 2016, Modi Ji restarted the project by providing Rs. 462 crore and today this project, which will irrigate 35,104 hectares, is on the verge of completion.
Shah said earlier projects had been scrapped after holding groundbreaking ceremonies, and work is now being undertaken under the leadership of Modi Ji to initiate both projects.
