Mizoram legislator ZR Thiamsanga came as a saviour for a pregnant woman who had gone into labour, in the remote Champhai district, on Monday.
Thiamsanga, who is a doctor by profession with specialisation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology performed an emergency caesarean and helped the woman deliver. This he did after learning that there was no doctor available to attend the case.
He was on a visit to his constituency-Champhai North near the Myanmar border, on Monday to assess the damages caused by the recent earthquakes and take stock of the COVID-19 situation.
A lady named C Lalhmangaihsangi (38) from the remote Ngur village was expecting her second child. She was bleeding and her condition was critical.
The medical officer of the Champhai hospital was on leave due to health issues and the woman was not in a position to travel to Aizawl, about 200 km away, the MLA said.
Understanding the seriousness of the issue, the MLA performed the caesarean.
The mother and the baby are doing well, he said.
