On Friday, Bhartiya Janata Party’s Member of Parliament Arjun Singh was assaulted in Kolkata’s Belgachia neighborhood that left him injured. He described it as a “pre-planned and pre-meditated incident” and filed a complaint with the Election Commission and special police observers.
Arjun Singh is leader from Barrackpore. He said in a statement that a mob attacked and manhandled him by his collar when he arrived for a meeting.
The BJP leader, who went as an observer for the BJP’s North Kolkata district, said he heard two gunshots when his security lathicharged the mob in an attempt to get rid off them. To protect the lawmaker, security personnel also fired rounds into the air.
“When my candidate Shivaji Singha Roy and I arrived for our public meeting in Belgachia, stones were thrown at us. Members of the mob were heckling me by my shirt collar as I asked my guards to shield him, and they also vandalized the stage where I was supposed to speak “He stated.

Arjun Singh said that the police didn’t stop the offenders and were mute spectators to the whole incident. “I heard two rounds of gunshots in the midst of the scuffle. My security fired shots into the air to keep me safe and disperse the mob.”
