Even as the Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray attacked the government for passing on the probe of Mukesh Ambani bomb case to the NIA, the mystery is deepening around the case with each day the NIA coming up with new findings of the probe.
The NIA has now found a black Mercedes-Benz car allegedly driven by arrested police officer Sachin Waze. The anti-terrorist agency seized 5 lakh in cash, a note-counting system, some clothing, and the SUV’s license plate from the vehicle. Now the car has been confiscated.
“The National Investigation Agency has confiscated a black Mercedes-Benz today. We recovered the Scorpio car’s license plate, over 5 lakh in cash, a note-counting system, and some clothing… “This car was driven by Sachin Waze… the possession of the car is being investigated,” senior NIA officer Anil Shukla told reporters.
The Scorpio SUV containing explosives was discovered abandoned near Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia residential building on February 25. It also included a threat to him and his wife, Nita Ambani. Mansukh Hiran, a Thane-based auto parts dealer, had filed a stolen complaint with the police on February 1st.
On March 5, Hiran’s body was discovered in a creek near Mumbai. Sachin Waze, the first police officer in the bomb scare case, allegedly used the vehicle for four months before returning it on February 5. She also suspected the officer of being involved in her husband’s murder.
The NIA arrested Sachin Waze last week for his alleged role in positioning the SUV near Mr Ambani’s home, just days after taking over the case from the Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad. On Sunday, he was interviewed by the department for several hours.
The NIA said on Monday that Mr Waze confiscated and deleted CCTV video from his own apartment complex. It raided his office and confiscated his computer-tablet, notebook, and other cell phones.
