Union Minister of State Anurag Singh Thakur, on Saturday, accused the PDP and NC of abusing the wealth of Jammu and Kashmir and said they had not witnessed any growth in the area.
However the area is now undergoing radical changes, and the Narendra Modi regime at the Center has been instrumental in raising many parts of society, he said. The BJP government had given insurance to all Rs 5 lakhs and made sure that no one in the newly sculpted Union Territory had died of malnutrition during the Covid-19 lockdown, he said.
Addressing a public meeting in Kashmir’s Budgam district, Thakur, who is also in charge of the BJP District Development Council (DDC) poll drive, said the DDC polls and the Panchayat elections would empower the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, and all those who deceive the masses about Articles 370 and 35 A live in a fool’s paradise.
The budget of the region will now be finalised by the DDC officials, who will aim to bring the creation of their respective electoral districts forward.
“The Modi government has empowered the common man, here. They were suppressed for the past 70 years because the three-tier administration system did not work well in J&K,” Thakur said in an apparent reference to Article 370.
“Some elements in the society tried to spark fear among the masses. They said that if locals come out to vote during the DDC polls, they will be struck by bullets and grenades. But the electorate here was able to see through them and sent a clear message to the world that they do believe in India’s democracy,” Thakur said, adding that the locals want change and stability in the area and are opposed to any kind of violence.
“People want young leaders and have rejected the traditional, dynastic politics of the Muftis and Abdullahs that have exploited Jammu and Kashmir for the past 70 years,” he said. “Despite ruling Jammu and Kashmir for more than 70 years, Gupkar-gang leaders have not been able to establish basic amenities. Also in the 21st century, our mothers and daughters had to fly to Kashmir.
