PM Modi has cancels his April 23rd rallies in West Bengal. Instead, he will preside over high-level meetings to aid in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to speak at four rallies on Friday.
Mamata Banerjee has not actually attended meeting between Chief Ministers and the Prime Minister in the last three months. She chose to skip both meetings, one in March and one in April, but rather focused on election campaigning.
At 10 a.m., Prime Minister Modi will address a meeting of Chief Ministers from high-burden states. Mamata Banerjee is also expected to skip the meeting.
While the ‘intelligentsia’ has been harshly critical of the BJP’s political rallies, it has chosen to give other political parties a pass. As a result, while Narendra Modi has canceled his rallies in West Bengal due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the state, Banerjee appears to be perfectly content to continue her campaign unabated.
During the ongoing West Bengal elections, all political parties, including the Congress party, the Trinamool Congress, and the CPI(M), have been heavily campaigning and attracting large crowds.
