PM Modi chairs high-level meeting to review preparedness against cyclone Amphan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the response preparedness against cyclone Amphan, developing within the Bay of Bengal.

The prime minister took full stock of things and reviewed the measures also because the evacuation plan presented by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office said.

During a presentation on the response plan, the NDRF director general informed that 25 NDRF teams are deployed on the bottom , while 12 others are ready in reserve.

Twenty-four other NDRF teams also are on standby in several parts of the country, the force chief told the meeting, the statement said.

Cyclone ‘Amphan’ intensified into an excellent cyclonic storm on Monday and is probably going to maneuver across the northeast Bay of Bengal, and cross the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts between Digha and therefore the Hatia island on May 20, the IMD has said.
