Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences on the recent tragic incident at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He expressed his condolences on the incident through Twitter and expressed sympathy to the victims, as well as wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi spoke to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the phone and inquired about disaster management from him and said that the local administration is providing all possible assistance in dealing with the situation of the incident.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath informed the media that he had four telephonic conversations with the Prime Minister. Giving a detailed description of the situation, he said that the incident occurred due to breaking of barricades. There is a huge crowd in Prayagraj at this time, but the situation has been kept under control. He appealed to the devotees to remain calm and work as per the instructions of the administration.
The Chief Minister said that saints of various Akharas have also requested the devotees to take a holy bath first and when the crowd subsides, the Akhara will proceed for the holy bath. Many ghats have been set up in the entire Maha Kumbh area, so that devotees do not need to go only to Sangam Nose. Railways have also made special arrangements so that devotees can return safely to their destinations.
