Rahat Indori dies from cardiac arrest after testing positive for COVID-19

Celebrated poet and lyricist Rahat Indori passed away due to cardiac arrest after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. He was admitted to the Sri Aurobindo hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He was 70 years old.

Rahat Indori was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. He suffered two heart attacks and could not be saved, said Dr Bhandari, from Sri Aurobindo hospital. Dr Bhandari also said that he had 60 per cent pneumonia.

The news of his demise was also announced on his official Twitter account. The tweet read, “Rahat Sahab died due to cardiac arrest at 5:00 pm. Pray for his journey (sic).”


Earlier today, the acclaimed lyricist shared the news of testing positive for the novel coronavirus on his official Twitter account. “My corona test was done yesterday after the onset of symptoms of Covid-19, the report of which has come positive. Pray that I should beat this disease as soon as possible. There is another request, do not call me or people at home. You will continue to get news regarding my health on Twitter and Facebook (sic),” Rahat Indori tweeted.

The acclaimed poet has also written famous songs such as Neend Churai Meri for the film Ishq. He has also written M Bole To for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Dil Ko Hazar Bar for Murder and many more.

Rahat Indori also authored many books during his lifetime.

Many prominent personalities took to social media to express their grief over Rahat Indori’s passing. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan penned a few words for the lyricist.

Actor Anupam Kher shared a hew lines by the poet to condole his death.

Rahat Indori was also an Urdu professor and a painter.
