Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away this morning. He was 82 years old. Yadav was ailing for a long time. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. He was admitted to the hospital on 22 August and shifted to the ICU on the night of 1 October. The body of Mulayam Singh Yadav is being taken from Gurugram to his native village Saifai in Uttar Pradesh. His last rites will be performed tomorrow.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was an MP from Mainpuri and was elected to the Lok Sabha seven times. He was also the Defense Minister of the country. Born in 1939 in Saifai village of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice. He was also the Defense Minister from 1996 to 1998. Inspired by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, Madhu Limaye and other socialist leaders, Mulayam Singh Yadav entered politics and became a prominent face in regional politics. He was known as ‘Netaji’ among party workers.
In 1992, Mulayam Singh Yadav founded the Samajwadi Party and a year later, in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party, gave power to his party.
