Security forces on Wednesday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a massive coordinated operation in the Anganpathri forest area of Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The area was being specifically searched for weapons hidden in a hollow deodar tree from where 3 AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 292 rounds of bullets, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), 9 UBGL grenades and 2 hand grenades were recovered.
The operation was launched based on confidential information about a cache of weapons hidden by terrorists in the area that could potentially be used for a major terror attack. The seizure was made at 1:15 pm and all the weapons recovered were hidden by wrapping them in blankets.
Police immediately registered an FIR at Baniyar police station after the recovery and a thorough investigation has been launched into the case. As a part of contemporary security review, security standards have been tightened in Uri sector and adjoining areas.
This operation was not only successful in thwarting planned terrorist incidents but also proved to be significant in gaining a deeper understanding of the terrorist presence and their intentions.
