Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz chief Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the new Prime Minister of the country. Sharif was elected prime minister after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party members walked out from the National Assembly. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, was also the prime ministerial candidate. But Qureshi’s claim in the assembly ended after the resignation of his party members before the session of the National Assembly.
The new prime minister is being selected after Imran Khan stepped down from the post of prime minister following the defeat in the no-confidence motion. Imran Khan is the first Prime Minister of the country to withdraw from the no-confidence motion. He was the Prime Minister of Pakistan for three years, seven months and 23 days.
According to media reports, Ayaz Sadiq presided after the resignation of Speaker of the House Asad Kasir.
