Suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Tahir Hussain, an accused in the recent North East Delhi violence and in the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer, has been sent to 7-day police custody by Delhi’s Karkardooma Court.
Duty Magistrate Rakesh Kumar passed the order after Tahir Hussain was produced before him by Delhi Police which said that his custodial interrogation was required to unearth larger conspiracy, Tahir’s advocate Mukesh Kalia said.
Absconding AAP councillor Tahir Hussain was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday after a court in Delhi dismissed his plea seeking to surrender before it in connection with alleged killing of 26-year-old IB official Ankit Sharma during the recent violence in North East Delhi.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja refused to entertain Hussain’s plea saying that the relief sought by him was outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The court said that as per the provisions of 177 Criminal Procedure Code (Ordinary place of inquiry and trial), the offence shall ordinarily be inquired into and tried by court within whose local jurisdiction it is committed.
A few minutes before his arrest Tahir Hussain spoke to India Today’s Poonam Sharma in an exclusive interview.
He took questions on various important points, including the finding of material used in riots in a building owned by him and his alleged involvement in the murder of an IB employee in Chand Bagh.
Tahir Hussain also spoke about going into hiding to evade arrest and his decision to surrender before the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Thursday.
Tahir Hussain claimed his innocence in the matter. He said that he had left his home along with his family members, when riots first broke out in the area on February 24. Tahir Hussain also said that before leaving, he had sought help from the police for the safety of his family.
Since he left the house in presence of the police and did not return thereafter, he claims he was not aware of who took over the building in question.
