The Punjab government on Friday decided to levy VAT (Value Added Tax) of 90 paise per liter on petrol and diesel. This decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting. Housing and Urban Development Minister Aman Arora told reporters, “Yes, VAT has been imposed on it”.
This is the first tax imposed on the public by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government after coming to power. In fact, on Friday, the cabinet gave the green signal to the cash-strapped government’s decision to impose cess. The Bhagwant Mann government is currently facing a shortage of money.
There has been no change in fuel prices in the country for more than five months. Petrol price in Mumbai is Rs 106.31 per liter and diesel price is Rs 94.27 per liter. Petrol and diesel prices vary across states depending on Value Added Tax (VAT) and freight charges. The prices of petrol and diesel are reviewed daily.
