UK flights banned as new coronavirus strain spreads

The latest form of coronavirus remains ‘out of balance’ in the United Kingdom (UK), warned by Health Secretary Matt Hancock that areas of England will stay trapped in the new higher degree of limits on Covid-19 until the vaccine is carried out.

Last week, the United Kingdom announced that a new strain of Covid-19 found there could spread more rapidly and urgent work is ongoing to ensure that it may not cause a higher mortality rate. The new coronavirus strain found in the United Kingdom is stated to be up to 70% more contagious.

England’s Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty, said the United Kingdom had warned the World Health Organisation (WHO) that the latest version of Covid-19 seems to be driving the dissemination of Covid-19. The government’s science advisors came to the conclusion on the basis of provisional modelling figures and are continuing to evaluate the available evidence, he added.

UK PM Boris Johnson said that the fast-moving new coronavirus variant, which is more than 70% more communicable than current strains, appears to be driving rapid spread in London and southern England.

The Prime Minister, however, said, “There is no evidence that it is more lethal or causes more serious illness, or that vaccines will be less effective against it.”
