As the inoculation drive gives major hope to people in India, amidst a crisis Health Ministry said that there is sufficient supply of vaccine in the country. The government is to begin the registration for the next level in the inoculation drive as the government reduced the age limit now. The Covid-19 vaccinations for all adults over the age of 18 opens on May 1Tuesday, the health ministry shared data to refute claims that vaccines were out of stock in several states, including Maharashtra.
So far, 150 million doses have been distributed to the states, with 10 million still available. The Centre would provide them with an additional 8 million doses over the next three days. The data also revealed that vaccine wastage was nearly 5% or higher in eight states. It is much lower in Maharashtra, at 0.22 percent, than in Delhi, where it is nearly 4 percent.
The government hopes to expand the vaccination campaign in the coming phase through its “liberalized and accelerated” strategy, which allows states and industrial establishments to purchase vaccines directly from manufacturers.
