34 killed, 17 missing after volcano erupts in Indonesia

A volcano erupted in Indonesia on Sunday, killing 34 people. Indonesia’s national disaster agency said thousands of people had to flee due to volcanic ash and hot mud that erupted on Mount Semeru.

About seventeen people are still missing. The inclement weather is hampering the rescue and relief operations. The volcano is still active.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited the affected area today. He said that two thousand families would be displaced due to the possible threat.
